The Rich History of the Somali Gabooye
The Somali Gabooye have an incredible history that is often overlooked. They were once the true kings of the northern regions of Somalia, possessing incredible skills and intellect. The Gabooye were inventors, creating equipment and weapons, tailors and artisans, creating the original Somali garments, as well as doctors and surgeons who used primitive surgical tools and medicinal herbs to heal. Despite their contributions, they have been oppressed and barred from Somali society for centuries. However, their resilience and ingenuity continue to inspire us today.
